ABSTRACT

Synthetic electroactive microbial consortia, which include exoelectrogenic and electrotrophic communities, catalyze the exchange of chemical and electrical energy in cascade metabolic reactions among different microbial strains. In comparison to a single strain, a community-based organisation that assigns tasks to multiple strains enables a broader feedstock spectrum, faster bi-directional electron transfer, and greater robustness. Therefore, the electroactive microbial consortia held great promise for a variety of applications such as bioelectricity and biohydrogen production, wastewater treatment, bioremediation, carbon and nitrogen fixation, and synthesis of biofuels, inorganic nanomaterials, and polymers. This review firstly summarized the mechanisms of biotic-abiotic interfacial electron transfer as well as biotic-biotic interspecific electron transfer in synthetic electroactive microbial consortia. This was followed by introducing the network of substance and energy metabolism in a synthetic electroactive microbial consortia designed by using the "division-of-labor" principle. Then, the strategies for engineering synthetic electroactive microbial consortiums were explored, which included intercellular communications optimization and ecological niche optimization. We further discussed the specific applications of synthetic electroactive microbial consortia. For instance, the synthetic exoelectrogenic communities were applied to biomass generation power technology, biophotovoltaics for the generation of renewable energy and the fixation of CO2. Moreover, the synthetic electrotrophic communities were applied to light-driven N2 fixation. Finally, this review prospected future research of the synthetic electroactive microbial consortia.

ABSTRACT

The combination of the immunotherapy (i.e., the use of monoclonal antibodies) and the conventional chemotherapy increases the long-term survival of patients with lymphoma. However, for patients with relapsed or treatment-resistant lymphoma, a novel treatment approach is urgently needed. Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cells were introduced as a treatment for these patients. Based on recent clinical data, approximately 50% of patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell lymphoma achieved complete remission after receiving the CD19 CAR-T cell therapy. Moreover, clinical data revealed that some patients remained in remission for more than two years after the CAR-T cell therapy. Other than the CD19-targeted CAR-T, the novel target antigens, such as CD20, CD22, CD30, and CD37, which were greatly expressed on lymphoma cells, were studied under preclinical and clinical evaluations for use in the treatment of lymphoma. Nonetheless, the CAR-T therapy was usually associated with potentially lethal adverse effects, such as the cytokine release syndrome and the neurotoxicity. Therefore, optimizing the structure of CAR, creating new drugs, and combining CAR-T cell therapy with stem cell transplantation are potential solutions to increase the effectiveness of treatment and reduce the toxicity in patients with lymphoma after the CAR-T cell therapy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To prepare Bevacizumab(BEV)multivesicular liposomes(BEV-MVLs)with sustained-effect,and to study their in vitro release characteristics. METHODS:BEV-MVLs were prepared by double emulsion method. Box-Behnken design-response surface methodology was used to optimize the prescription with the concentration of glycerol trioleate(TO)in organic phase, ratio of 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine(DOPC)-cholesterol(CH)(mol/mol),the concentration of L-lysine in external water phase as factors, using encapsulation rate as index. The morphology of BEV-MVLs was observed by inverted fluorescence microscope and SEM;particle size was determined by laser particle size analyzer;the BEV content was determined by HPLC and calculate the encapsulation rate and in vitro accumulative release rate.RESULTS:The optimized prescription was as follows as TO of 2.72 mmol/L in organic phase,DOPC-CH ratio of 0.67(mol/mol)and L-lysine of 40 mmol/L in external water phase. The encapsulation rate of BEV-MVLs was(80.65±4.42)%(n=3),and relative error of it to predicted value was 2.54%. The liposomes were spherical in appearance shape and uniform in size, and they were typical non-concentric vesicle structure with average particle size of 16.80 μm. 30 d in vitro accumulative release rate was about 92%. CONCLUSIONS:Prepared BEV-MVLs show sustained-effect,and their encapsulation rate reaches the expected effect.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of high frequency ultrasound in sebaceous gland carcinoma of eyelid (SC).Methods The ultrasonic characteristic for 11 cases with eyelid SC were respectively analyzed by using 13 MHz high frequency ultrasound and 22 MHz ultra-high frequency ultrasound. Results Through 13 MHz high frequency ultrasound,in 7 patients who exhibited Pagetoid invasion the lid shin thickness of tumor side displays no significant alteration in a comparison with normal side.Furthermore, the color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) evealed a branch-like blood flow surrounding the masses in all cases, but the blood flow of seven patients with Pagetoid invasion had no difference compared with the healthy side.On 22 MHz ultra-high frequency ultrasound examination,slit-like low echo was found in 9 ;transition zone of tumor infiltration can be identified in 9 ; the echo of tumors with Pagetoid invasion was lower than the healthy side and the skin thickness of tumors with Pagetoid invasion was thicker (0.6 ±0.1) mm than the healthy side.CDFI revealed that mesh-basket like blood flow was rich in all patients, the small branch blood vessels arrived at subcutaneous, and vasa vasorum were found in some patients. The region with Pagetoid invasion was rich in blood flow. The sonography findings on 13 MHz and 22 MHz high frequency ultrasound examination were compared with chisquare test. There were significant differences on homogeneous echo,slit-like low echo, transition zone of tumor infiltration, infiltration skin thickness, blood distribution, central blood vessels, vasa vasorum, blood flow in the region with Pagetoid invasion (x2 =12.571,15.231,15.231,4.701,22.000,15.231,4.899,10.267,P<0.05).Conclusions Slit-like low echo in the mass is a main finding of eyelid sebaceous gland cercinoma on the 22 MHz ultra-high frequency ultrasound. The ultra-high frequency ultrasound can accurately reveal the skin depth infiltrated by the eyelid sebaceous gland cercinoma and this method can provide solid guidance for clinical treatment strategies.

ABSTRACT

AIM:To study the effects of citicoline in treating neuroleptic-induced extrapyramidal side effect (EPS). METHODS:Seventy-five patients were divided into two groups:citicoline group of 38 patients ( M25,F13;age 28 a±s 9 a) received citicoline injection 0.5 g.d-1,in 5 % glucose injection 500 mL,iv,drip,qd ,for 14 d and control group of 37 patients ( M23,F14;age 27 a±6 a) received 5 % glucose injection 500 mL,iv, drip, qd,for 14 d. RESULTS: The total efficacy of citicoline or control group was 92 % and 11 % (P<0.05 ), respectively. The tremour, muscular rigidity, gait and muscle dystonia were better in citicoline group than in control group. No side effects were found. CONCLUSION: Citicoline is effective for neuroleptic-induced EPS.
